Chesapeake’s Heat Pumps, Fixed on the First Visit
Chesapeake is mostly subdivisions built since 1980, which means heat pumps by the tens of thousands - and a large share of them are hitting the age where parts fail every summer. Call (757) 432-3659
and a technician heads over from Virginia Beach with the common failure parts already on the truck.
Heat pump and air conditioning repair across Chesapeake - Greenbrier, Great Bridge, Deep Creek, Hickory, Western Branch, and South Norfolk.
Greenbrier’s Systems Are Aging Out
Greenbrier boomed through the 1980s and 1990s, and the builder-grade heat pumps that went in with those houses are now on their second or third replacement cycle. The units still hanging on from the 2000s generate most of the calls: weak cooling upstairs, compressors drawing high amps, refrigerant leaks at corroded coil joints. We test first, then give you the repair price alongside a straight assessment of the unit’s remaining life. Older R-22 systems get an honest conversation about refrigerant cost and availability, not an automatic replacement pitch.
Great Bridge, Hickory, and the Newer South
South of the Intracoastal, Great Bridge and Hickory run newer - big two-story homes from the 2000s and 2010s, many of them conditioning both floors on a single system. The complaint we hear most is a second floor that will not cool while the downstairs thermostat reads fine. Sometimes that is airflow: closed dampers, dirty coils, duct runs that leak into the attic. Sometimes the system was sized to the square footage but not the layout, and no repair changes physics. Either way, you get the measured cause before anyone talks money, and a fix priced to the actual problem.
Built on Wet Ground
Chesapeake sits low and drains slowly. Crawlspaces stay damp most of the year, condensate lines grow algae fast, and float switches trip during muggy stretches - exactly when the system is working hardest. A unit that shuts itself off on the most humid afternoon of the year usually has a drainage problem, not a refrigerant problem. It is one of the cheapest repairs we make, provided it gets caught before the drain pan overflows into a ceiling. Damp crawlspace air also rusts air handlers from the outside in, so we look the cabinet over on every drainage call.
